Eating Fish at Ammersee: Whitefish, Trout and Lenas am See

Ammersee is among Bavaria’s richest fishing lakes. Fishermen land mostly whitefish, known locally as Renke, plus pike, zander and char.

Where to find fish

Fishermen around the lake sell fresh and smoked fish from their homes. In Utting, the restaurant Lenas am See has made a name for itself. Check current opening times first, as lakeside restaurants often change with the season.

Why whitefish?

Whitefish thrives in cool, clean lakes. Smoked or fried it tastes mild and is a typical Ammersee dish.
