Danube Gorge at Weltenburg: Boat Trip and Abbey

By Johannes Huber, Updated:

Between Weltenburg and Kelheim the Danube cuts through Jurassic rock. The Weltenburg Narrows are a protected natural monument and a popular day trip.

By boat

Boats run from Kelheim through the gorge to Weltenburg Abbey in about 40 minutes.

Weltenburg Abbey

The Benedictine abbey stands right on the bank. Its Baroque church is by the Asam brothers, and the abbey brewery is regarded as one of the world’s oldest.

Tips

Boats do not run during floods, so check first. You can also return on foot over the Michelsberg, past the Hall of Liberation.
